CAPE TOWN, South Africa, 26 July 2019 – Machine Intelligence Institute of Africa (MIIA) to Participate in AI Expo Africa 2019 from 3 – 5 September 2019.

The Machine Intelligence Institute of Africa (MIIA) is a non-profit organization founded by Dr Jacques Ludik in 2016 – the same year in which he founded Cortex Logic. The mission of MIIA is to help establish and foster key relationships and partnerships within the Artificial Intelligence ‘Network of Excellence’ – creating a strong, innovative Machine Intelligence and Data Science community and dialogue in Africa through networking, collaboration and conversation. MIIA’s growing network consists of stakeholders in the African AI Ecosystem, including 3200+ members and key decision-makers in academia, businesses, NGOs, NPOs, investment, government and entrepreneurship.

MIIA is excited to announce that we’ll be participating in AI Expo Africa 2019, taking place at the Century City Conference Centre from the 3rd to the 5th of September 2019 – considered the largest B2B-focused Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Community and Trade event in Africa. This year’s event builds on the success of the inaugural event held in Cape Town in 2018, a gathering of CxOs, entrepreneurs, inventors, and investors in the region – focusing on real-world AI and Data Science business applications. Last year’s event was supported by 700+ delegates, 270+ companies, 60+ speakers and 40+ sponsors, and will see the support from large organizations such IBM, PWC, Microsoft, Deloitte, Telkom and SMBs including Genii AI, InstaDeep, and Cortex Logic this year. International community members such as the ITU, French Embassy, Business France, Data Science Nigeria and South Africa’s Fliptin, will also be welcomed at this year’s event.

Founder and President of MIIA, Dr Jacques Ludik said, “Real-world AI events such as AI Expo Africa, not only accelerate the dialogue on advances in the field of AI, but can be used to educate the world on continental developments with AI and connect vital stakeholders within the African AI Business and Investment Ecosystem. Every stakeholder within the African AI Ecosystem has a crucial role to play in the resolution of homegrown economic and social challenges through AI – so, this event is perfect for us to explore opportunities for engagement, form valuable partnerships and work together to progress to an AI-powered Africa. That’s why MIIA grabbed at the opportunity to be part of AI Expo Africa again”.

MIIA Director,  John Kamara added, “Events such as AI Expo Africa not only provide a platform for education on new AI developments on the continent but enable and facilitate the development of crucial partnerships among AI for Good stakeholders, that will propel Africa’s AI journey forward”. Dr Jacques Ludik concluded, “We’re also excited to form part of the 36 vendors exhibiting in the Expo Hall, as well as the track speaking programme, consisting of 67 talks, keynotes and panel discussions – where we’ll engage in and deliver on crucial topics including AI Ethics, AI Readiness, AI for Good, Women in AI, education, and investment”.

This year’s event will also see a range of new features, ensuring maximized and immersive learning experiences for CxOs, entrepreneurs, inventors, and investors – including an African AI Demo Zone, AI Innovation Cafe, AI Art & Music Challenge, Innovation Wall, as well as a series of intensive executive and skills development workshops. MIIA will leverage this opportunity to engage with key stakeholders – not only to discover new players in the African AI Ecosystem, but to engage with them, partner with valuable stakeholders in the ‘Network of Excellence’ and grow our collaborative community.
